Chemco International based in Scotland and founded in 1990 has been in the business of manufacturing and designing of specialist, innovative, problem solving and high quality anti-corrosion coatings for 18 years. The history of the company however, goes back to over 25 years ago when the original technology was transferred from U.S.A.
In the past 10 years or so, Chemco have developed a new range of very innovative and problem solving products and is considered to be a leader in technology and innovation. Chemco’s team of chemists have particularly been active in developing products for applications where major paint companies have lacked the necessary imagination and technology.
The majority of Chemco’s range of products are solvent free, isocyanides free, moisture and surface tolerant and designed to supersede paints with dangerous solvents as their base.
In recent years, following extensive research, there has been a great demand for products which can be applied to surfaces pressure washed to standards even as low as WJ4. Grit blasting is now considered as a major pollutant with health & safety dangers to employees the environment and also comes at high cost to clients.
Alternatives are now available; Chemco can specify proven systems having been independently tested for long term steel corrosion protection achieving excellent results with adhesion well above accepted norms and with the flexibility to counteract severe structural movements.

Chemco realised that solvent free epoxies with a surface moisture tolerance and with fast drying/curing properties atmospherically dried without the need for vast equipment would effectively be the way forward practically and commercially. Chemco designed their 500 series with all the aforementioned attributes and over the past 5 years have gained Lloyds Register approval for ballast tanks and F.D.A. approvals for carriage of dry cargo and fresh drinking water showing the flexibility afforded to owners. It should be noted that Chemco, as a specialist company, value their clients and therefore a decision was made that only top quality materials such as the best possible resins and chemicals be used in manufacturing, in order that Chemco can be confident in guaranteeing clients long term in service life for their vessels.
The most important factor however is the fact that these products actually work in high humidity and lower standard of surface preparation and are guaranteed to perform, almost all other paints supplied by paint companies do NOT work under these conditions and require periodic repair/maintenance and renewal. The Chemco products are of high quality and specialist nature which has led to major ship-owners now using this technology.
